Matilda designs and directs The Research Base’s research projects, oversees quality assurance and leads on the overall management of the agency. She is experienced in literature reviews, market intelligence and evaluations; and has expertise in desk research, qualitative research and quantitative research (including sampling, data weighting and statistical analysis). Her main areas of expertise are education and international development. Matilda has developed a forecasting methodology for the Research Base and has used this in projects to develop various demographic, epidemiological, employment and education forecasts.

Recent projects have included an international research project on post-16 vocational maths for the Education & Training Foundation, the design of a sectoral skills model for the Chilean Ministry of Labour and evaluation of a multi-country graduate training programme for the British Council and a FTSE 100 company.

Matilda is an accredited PRINCE2 and MSP practitioner, a Fellow of the RSA and a Certified Member of Market Research Society. She has a BA (Hons) in Social & Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics. With over 15 years of research design experience, she is trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Prior to founding The Research Base in 2010, Matilda led research and policy for City & Guilds Centre for Skills Development. She has worked as a freelance consultant in research, policy and campaigns for various clients, including the John Clare Trust and the Refugee Council. She also set up the National Skills Forum and Associate Parliamentary Skills Group, where she worked with Ministers, employers and other stakeholders on policy development. She has additionally worked as a Parliamentary Advisor.

Before working in research and policy, Matilda set up an English programme for a social and health development charity in India.
